Baby Massage At Your Home

Baby Massage under Health2u is carried out in the comfort of your own home by one of our physiotherapists experienced in working with babies.  They can also teach you and/or your partner how to carry out the baby massage yourself so that you can make it part of your daily routine.

Teaching dads how to encorporate baby massage into the babys routine including bedtime can help them form a bond with your baby particularly if they feel they are missing out due to being at work and when the baby is breastfed.

You may have friends who would be interested in joining for the baby massage.  We can also provide baby massage sessions for small groups of mums at a location that is convenient for you all such as someones home or apartment.

What is Baby Massage?

Baby Massage is a gentle and rhythmical stroking of your baby using an oil or moisturiser to help with the gliding of the hands.  The movements of the hands over the skin help to stimulate the production of the feel-good loving feeling hormone experienced when holding your baby close or breastfeeding them.

How Does Baby Massage Benefit My Baby?

There are a number of benefits for a baby to have baby massage which can include:

  • improved sleep
  • improve digestion and ease constipation
  • help your baby stay relaxed and not get upset
  • reduce crying and fussing
  • improve weight gain
  • enhancing the bond between you and your baby
  • improve circulation
  • improve babies proprioception and recognition of their body
  • help your babys mental, social and physical development

When Can Baby Massage Start?

Baby Massage is perfectly safe for babies to start at any age from newborn.  Before 6 weeks home massages are usually preferable to going to a class as the class situation can be a bit overwhelming for some babies and difficulties can arise with being able to get to the class on time.

When Is The Best Time For Baby Massage?

The best time is when your baby is in their calm-alert state.  This time is when they have been awake for a short period and has been fed and comfortable.  In this state they will be responsive and content and respond best to his world learning the gain the most from their experiences.

What Do I Need For Baby Massage?

We will provide the baby oil for the session and give you a list of massage oils you can choose from that are appropriate for babies to buy if aiming to carry out some baby massage yourself.  It is preferable for babies to be free of clothes and their nappy (not essential) during the massage and if so a waterproof mat or disposable pee mat is recommended.

Why Is It Beneficial To Have The Baby Massage At My Home?

Every baby’s sleep pattern is different.  You will not have to wake your baby up or go through the hassle and cost of travelling anywhere.   Our physiotherapist can visit you at the time you know your baby to be in their calm-alert state helping both you (or partner) and your baby get the most out of the baby massage.  We also allow extra time so if your baby needs a feed or cuddle during the session this is not a problem.

If you would like to have a physiotherapist come and provide baby massage for your baby at home or for a group of friends at your home drop us an email or contact us on 8358 2144.
